Spiral Balance Service

A spiral balance window is a modern system used in double-hung windows (those with two operable sashes that slide vertically). The spiral balance system uses a spring inside a plastic or metal tube, and this spring is wound into a spiral shape. The spiral rod is attached to the sash, and when you raise or lower the sash, the tension in the spring adjusts to counterbalance the weight of the window. This system helps the window stay in place when opened or closed. The most noticeable feature of a spiral balance window is the visible spiral rod along the sides of the window frame (often on the left and right). The spiral rod moves up and down as the window is opened or closed. The system usually has a tension-adjustment screw to make it easier to set the appropriate balance for the window’s weight.
The most common issue with spiral balance windows is incorrect tension in the spiral spring. If the tension is too tight, the window might be difficult to open or close, and it may not stay in place when opened. Conversely, if the tension is too loose, the window may drop quickly or be impossible to keep open.  Over time, the spiral spring or balance rod can wear out, become corroded, or even snap. This will result in the window becoming heavy and difficult to move, or the sash might not stay in place at all.
