Which service do I need?
If your windows rattle or let in cold air, start with draught proofing. If a sash drops or will not stay open, it usually needs new cords or spiral balances. Matt will tell you at the free quote.
Do you work on modern timber windows too?
Yes. Matt repairs sash and timber windows of every age, from Victorian terraces to homes built in the last few years.
What is included in draught proofing?
Each sash comes out, the frame is cleaned and eased, and high performance seals and beading go in. Cords and hardware are checked while the window is apart.
When do sash cords need replacing?
When a sash drops, sticks or will not stay open, the cords have usually frayed or snapped. Matt replaces every cord on the window, not just the broken one.
What are spiral balances?
Many later sash windows use spring loaded spiral balances instead of cords and weights. When they wear out the sash slips. Matt replaces or retensions them so the window glides and holds again.
Can you replace broken glass?
Yes. Matt replaces cracked panes and can upgrade to laminated, acoustic or Low E glass that suits your existing sashes.
Who looks after the work?
Matt does. MST is owner operated, so the person who quotes your job oversees it from start to finish and signs off every window.
Can rotten timber be repaired?
Usually, yes. As an Evermend ambassador, Matt rebuilds decayed sills, sashes and frames with a specialist epoxy system, so the original window can stay.
Do you fix locks, pulleys and other hardware?
Yes. Matt replaces worn sash locks, pulleys, lifts and stops, and can fit window restrictors for child safety.
Can several services be done in one visit?
Yes, and it usually saves time and money. Most jobs combine new cords, draught proofing and hardware while each sash is already out.
